Constant current source required for systems
that are sensitive to current fluctuation, say charging batteries. Most of
the batteries, has limits charging current to be followed so that the
batteries have long lifetimes. Therefore if the charging current limit is
exceeded the permissible limits will shorten battery life.
Constant current source circuit can be realized using current amplifier, can
use a circuit of
op-amp or transistor.
Constant Current Source Using Transistor
The following circuit is a transistor functioning as a
source of constant current (within the range that is tolerable). By
connecting the load to a battery, this circuit is sufficient for use as
battery charge.
Current flowing in the load is equal to 12/12 which is about 1 Ampere. If we
want a smaller current, then the value of Re can be replaced with greater
than 12 Ohm.
