Built Your Own Solar Water
Heater
Sunlight
is a very large energy and abundant in number, especially for the tropics,
with a beam of light throughout the year.
One that can be utilized for the needs of human life is to utilize the sun
energy to heat water for bathing purposes.
In a simple system of solar water heating can be illustrated in Figure 1.
The principle of work is based on the thermosyphon, the method of passive
heat exchange without using a mechanical pump, that is heat exchanging by
circulating the fluid based on the natural convection.
Water heating system consists of 3 blocks of the water tank, heating element
and water channels. Water tank should be made of materials that can store
heat (eg, water tank covered with a shiny material), while the heating
element can be made using corrosion resistant metal pipe painted with not
glossy black color.
This system will work with the condition the whole block filled with water
in full, heating time is depending on the capacity of water tank and solar
radiation intensity.
